M50, Ireland

Dynniq secures its largest EPIC project in support of TII

Why the need for EPIC?

As part of Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII) Enhanced Motorway Operation Service programme, TII wanted to upgrade the M50 to be an ITS motorway to improve and effectively manage traffic. TII wanted the motorway to display Variable Message Signs (VMS), speed signs and slip road messages and be able to live monitor the traffic through interconnected CCTV and Number Plate Recognition to a Motorway Operations Control Centre based in Dublin. The aim of project is to keep road users safe by being able to quickly respond to incidents including traffic collisions, congestion and changing weather conditions.

What is it?

At Dynniq, we were able to offer a complete turn-key solution which included Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning and Asset Maintenance over a 7-year period. A combination of our high quality and reliable supply chain together with our specialist team of engineers installed and commissioned all assets to provide a fully integrated system, ensuring the software and hardware work seamlessly with the aim of reducing the total cost of ownership.

How does it work?

The ITS motorway allows TII to have the ability to monitor and respond to incidents in real time from their control centre allowing lanes to be closed, speed limits imposed and critical information to be instantly updated on the VMS gantries. This has enabled us to deliver one of the most advanced, comprehensive and reliable ITS systems, helping road users enjoy safer, more efficient journeys along Ireland’s busiest motorway.

Where is it?

This system is currently running on the M50, Ireland which covers approximately 294Km of motorway lanes going around the outskirts of Dublin.
